In the "Vjekoslav Karas" Gallery, an exhibition of the excellent fine artist, hyperrealist painter Zoran Homen from Križevci called "More Real than Real" was opened. This is Homen's first presentation of his artistic work in Karlovac. The exhibition remains open until June 25, 2023.
Zoran Homen has been painting for more than 50 years, during which he exhibited 15 solos and more than 100 group exhibitions. His paintings can be found in several museums and galleries and in many private collections. He paints still lifes, landscapes, and portraits in a hyperrealistic style. Art criticism classifies him as a prominent representative of that style in Croatia. A special oeuvre consists of paintings of sacred themes. About 70 such works can be found in numerous churches and monasteries throughout Croatia. In Karlovac, Homen presents four directions of his own painting through 44 selected works. The sea, still lifes, portraits, and winters. Various motifs speak of the exceptional ability to materialize water, stone, snow, fruits, fish, objects, and faces...
He was born in 1951 in Osijek. From the first year of his life, he grew up in Đurđevac, where he finished elementary school and high school. In Zagreb, he graduated from the Pedagogical Academy as an art teacher and then entered the Faculty of Philosophy, where he graduated in archaeology. He was the director of the Križevci Museum for many years, the head of the Art Gallery, and the organizer of art life in the city. He has been running painting courses in Križevci and Bjelovar for amateur painters for 20 years.
For his dedicated and selfless work in the field of museology, art, promotion of traditional customs related to the "Križevci Statutes" and overall social engagement, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award of the City of Križevci in 2016 and, a year later, the Lifetime Achievement Award of Koprivnica - Križevac County. He was the director of the Križevci Museum for many years, the head of the Art Gallery, and the organizer of art life in the city.
The author of the foreword of the exhibition catalog and the organizer of the exhibition is Aleksandra Goreta, an academic painter and manager of the "Vjekoslav Karas" Gallery. The exhibition is financially supported by the City of Karlovac.
The exhibition is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
