About Gallery

The “Vjekoslav Karas” Gallery is located in the Karlovac New Center in the vicinity of the “Ivan Goran Kovačić” library and the State Archives. The author of the conceptual design for the building is the Karlovac architect Želimir Žagar, while the main design was authored by architect Stanko Kočevar. The construction commenced in 1975, and one year later, on April 5, 1976, it was inaugurated.

The exhibition area is located on the first floor of the gallery and is one of the most attractive and most furnished exhibition premises in Karlovac. The central space with an indented regular rhythm of protrusions and niches on one hand offers visibility, clarity and a feeling of monumentality, while on the other hand it provides flexibility to the point of complete unrecognizability if so required by the exhibition layout.

The “Vjekoslav Karas” Gallery alternately holds artistic and museum exhibitions, offering the visitors a memorable museum and gallery experience. The exhibition activities related to contemporary visual arts examine and evaluate the contemporary Karlovac scene, while also following and presenting the national art scene.
