On Wednesday, July 5, 2023, we opened the exhibition "Hinko Krapek - a man of his time" in Ljubljana. The exhibition can be visited in the Šiška Library of the Ljubljana City Library during regular working hours.
Photographer Hinko Krapek began his photographic journey in Vienna, later in 1869 he opened his own photography studio in Maribor. He expanded his photographic work to Croatia, where he stayed for some time in Zagreb, and later mainly in Karlovac until the end of 1896. He mainly engaged in portrait photography, and he is also known for his extensive portfolio of photographs of cultural-historical monuments, landscapes, and urban views, which have great historical value in terms of documenting cultural-historical heritage. He was also the first promoter of tourism in the Plitvice Lakes area. He also became famous for his great work of postcards from Slovenia, as well as Croatia, where he is considered one of the pioneers of postcard publishing.
The author of the exhibition is museum advisor Sanda Kočevar. The exhibition was created in cooperation between the City Library "Ivan Goran Kovačić" from Karlovac and the Museum of the City of Karlovac. The exhibition is sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Zagreb, with the financial support of the City of Karlovac and Karlovac County.
